We have a propane fireplace that heats the off-grid cabin. You can adjust the temperature using the thermostat (to the left of the kitchen sink). The fire will automatically turn on and off to keep the cabin at your desired temp. The fireplace can get hot, therefore we don't recommend booking if you have small toddlers.
Yes! We have a hot water on-demand for showers, bathroom & kitchen sinks. The hot water on demand can take a good 10-15 seconds to get warm, so please be patient.
Yes! In the event that there is no sun (which can happen for multiple days during the winter in Ely), our backup propane powered generator will turn on automatically to charge up the batteries. During these dark days we ask guests to be mindful of how much electricity they are using to help conserve resources and so that they don't have to hear the generator so often (although it's pretty quiet if you are inside the off-grid cabin with the door closed).
Yes! We have a double burner propane cook top inside the off-grid cabin, as well as a gas grill outside. If you're feeling adventurous you can do your cooking over the outdoor firepit! We provide marshmallow/hot dog roasting sticks.
4-wheel drive isn't necessary in the summer months, but highly recommended for winter. Please keep in mind that the driveway leading to our off-grid cabin is steep and dirt. We encourage a higher clearance vehicle due to the bumps.
This vacation rental is safest for kids 6+. The stairs to the sleeping loft are very steep and would require supervision at all times for anyone under the age of 6. Additionally, the fireplace does not have any protection around it. Parents are responsible for bringing anything that they may need for the safety and well being of their children.
Yes! We are dog friendly! There is a $50 nonrefundable pet fee per dog. We allow a maximum of 2 dogs. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture or beds and require a kennel if you plan to leave them in the cabin alone. Pet fee must be paid upon booking and/or prior to arrival.
Unfortunately, no. We are only covered for the guests on the reservation and cannot allow additional people on our property during your stay. Our septic system and solar system also have their limits.
The cabin includes: linens, towels, flashlights, TP, coffee, tea, fire starter, biodegradable shampoo, conditioner, body wash, yoga mats, a toaster, cooking utensils, mini fridge in summer (outside cooler in winter)
You should bring: Anything you need for your kids or dog (kennel, bed)
Extra firewood: You can buy it in town at Lucky 7, Clark or Zups
Extra ice: we have a small ice tray in the freezer (summer only), but if you need lots you should plan to pick it up
You should leave at home: hair dryers (they overload our solar)
In summer we rent 4 mountain bikes and a canoe. Let us know if you're interested and we will have you pay online and sign a waiver.
In winter we have 2 pairs of MSR snowshoes available for your use on our trails!
